Issues I work with

Issues I feel competent working with include

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bereavement
  • Dissociation (including DID, DDNOS), "losing time", having "multiple parts"
  • Flashbacks (seeing, hearing or or body memories of past events)
  • Hearing voices and visual hallucinations
  • Complex-PTSD (C-PTSD), or to use a pejorative label, those with a diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) or Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
  • I essentially view all individuals as capable of growth and having the potential to be their best selves, rather than as faulty and needing to be fixed (as would say the medical model approaches like CBT).

I have worked a lot with trauma and particularly survivors of childhood abuse. I became a more "proactive" Person-Centred Practitioner out of necessity; not just listening and nodding but helping those having flashbacks or in dissociative states become grounded and process the images, feelings, thoughts and voices that haunt them each day. Sometimes "just listening" to trauma is not helpful to the client; body awareness and reflection is essential too.
